Baroque instruments

Playing a modern instrument with ideas about style and authenticity for early music in mind is a perfectly valid thing to do, but  it’s not quite the same thing as playing an instrument that’s built and setup like early instruments were. Neck length and shape, fingerboard materials, strings, bridge, bassbar, and tailpiece all influence how the instrument sound and how it is played. Even the pegs, saddle and nut have slight effects, depending on the materials and styles used.

I’ve researched representations of instruments in paintings and surviving instruments and fittings in museum collections to guide me in developing baroque and classical model instruments.
